Welcome Message
Dear Fellow Clinical Microbiologists,
On behalf of the Board Members of the Emirates Society of Clinical Microbiology (ESCM), I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you.
ESCM was established in May 2018 under the aegis of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA) with the mission of upholding the highest standards of clinical microbiology practice and addressing the evolving professional needs of clinical microbiologists in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Our society is committed to fostering strong collaboration between clinical microbiologists and clinicians, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care in infectious diseases.
Clinical microbiologists play a pivotal role in healthcare by enabling accurate laboratory diagnosis, advancing infection prevention and control, promoting antimicrobial stewardship, and supporting evidence-based clinical decision-making. On the other hand, clinical microbiologists also support academic research and laboratory scientists by helping to identify research gaps and by analyzing the current antimicrobial resistance scenario, which contributes to strengthening the new drug discovery and development pipeline.
Through collaborative research, guideline development, and educational initiatives, ESCM empowers its members to contribute meaningfully to improved patient outcomes and public health. ESCM is also a member of the WHO Civil Society on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), reflecting our commitment to global efforts in combating AMR.
ESCM offers free or discounted registration and Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits through its educational programs and annual conference. Members also have opportunities to participate in peer review activities, collaborative initiatives, and receive mentorship from senior members to support laboratory accreditation, infection control and antimicrobial stewardship program development and professional growth.
I warmly invite all clinical microbiologists, academic researchers in the field of Microbiology and laboratory scientists across the UAE to join ESCM and actively engage in its initiatives. Together, we can strengthen our profession and make a tangible impact on patient care, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kavita Diddi
